Doug Shinn

Doug began his real estate career in 1983. He knows the history and particulars of almost every property in the area, from maintenance issues to the nuances of north and south slopes – all the specialized knowledge that comes from experience and dedication. He is also an expert on the unique needs of second-home owners and a capable ambassador for Bay Area visitors.

As one of the leading producers in the Ebbetts Pass area during all the market turns of the last three decades, Doug has handled multiple transactions for many clients. They return because of his professional ethics and honesty and because they’ve learned that a real estate transaction can indeed be successful when handled with skill and care.

He and Carrie married in 1978 and moved to Calaveras County in 1980 to raise their two children “with clean air, clean water, good schools and a safe community”. Danielle Hardcastle (Shinn) lives with her husband JD in Stockton and they have two children, Dax and Shea. They are business owners and Danielle is also a Realtor. Danielle and JD both graduated from University of Pacific; Dani had an impressive career in the top-rated Tiger volleyball program. Dustin Shinn attended Humboldt State University where he pursued photography, climbing, and competed on the men’s volleyball team. He works for Wyndham Resorts and was married on 9/10/11 to Valerie Fox. They reside in San Diego (Pacific Beach) and he is an avid and highly competitive beach volleyball player.

Doug played intercollegiate basketball and soccer at Cal Poly Pomona and graduated in 1969. He created and implemented youth outreach programs on the San Francisco peninsula and at Yosemite National Park, benefiting from professional management training with the YMCA. He has also earned valuable hands-on experience in construction and in 1994 brokered the highly successful Greenhorn Creek golf course community. In the community, he has coached youth and school teams, co-chaired school bond campaigns, and served on the local Board of Realtors.

An active athlete his entire life, Doug still enjoys volleyball, swimming, and skiing. Any day off, he looks for a quiet spot in the high country, or quality time with family.

“Going back to my early childhood, I have had a deep rooted love of mountains, forests, rivers and lakes. In 1973 I left the Bay Area for a ski weekend and I have never gone back! I truly enjoy sharing my knowledge and appreciation for this special part of the Sierra, so that others too can enjoy a “Sierra Lifestyle.”
