Cedar Creek Realty is proud to introduce our new office manager, Ellie Hale. Ellie’s poise and presence has been a wonderful addition to the Cedar Creek team. Ellie is originally from Cambridge, Great Britain, but moved to the Bay Area when she was thirteen. She attended UCLA and graduated in 2009 with a degree in English, and has most recently worked for Fine Home Moves, a real estate company in Los Gatos, California. Ellie moved to Sonora in March and started working for Cedar Creek in April 2013.

Tessa Bunge has been our office manager since late 2010, and recently decided to leave her home in Calaveras County in hopes of moving to the Bay Area to start a new adventure. After meeting Ellie and hearing that she had left an open position in her last job, Tessa got in touch with the owners and went down to meet and interview with them. On May 20th, Tessa will be starting work for Stephen Slater and Gail Thomson of Fine Home Moves, part of Intero Real Estate Services in Los Gatos.

So, we say goodbye to Tessa and hello to Ellie as they complete their switch and start their respective new roles!

85th Annual Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee

Every May, our community prepares for a highly anticipated annual event: the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee.

This year, Calaveras County will celebrate the 85th Annual County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee from Thursday May 16th through Sunday May 19th at Frogtown. Throughout the four days the fair will feature all the classic favorites including carnival rides & games, exhibits, a rodeo, queen pageant, concerts, the destruction derby, and of course: the frog jump contest!

The first official Frog Jumping Jubilee was held in 1928 in downtown Angels Camp, after Mark Twain wrote his well-known “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”. In 1938 the fairgrounds were acquired and the county fair was joined with the annual Frog Jumping Jubilee to become a celebrated community event.

Only a few roads cut through the Sierra from west to east. If speed’s your goal, set cruise control and take I-80 over Donner Summit. But locals argue about which other mountain pass boasts the best scenery. Which is why you shouldn’t drive just one. Instead, take a weekend for a road trip on States 4 and 108.

Day 1: From Arnold, drive State 4 to Bear Valley. Just beyond, Lake Alpine Resort serves up a hearty trout-and-eggs breakfast, and rents kayaks. Heading east, 4 curlicues up and over Ebbetts Pass’s 8,732-foot summit. Two right turns take you first over State 89′s Monitor Pass, then South on U.S. 395 through the rugged Walker River canyon. For dinner and a motel room, Bridgeport is you best bet.

Day 2: From Bridgeport, State 108 runs west to climb steep switchbacks past thick stands of aspens and craggy volcanic outcroppings to the 9,624-foot Sonora Pass. West of the summit, Kennedy Meadows Resort has hamburgers and horseback rides. At Donnell Vista, walk the oath that shows off the Yosemite – like gorge of Donnell Reservoir. Cap off the trip with a swim at Pinecrest Lake, and dream of doing it all again in reverse.

Burn Permits are required for outdoor burning starting May 1st. Always call 209-754-6600, Air Pollution Control District, to determine if it is a burn day. Permits are available at the Cal Fire Station in Arnold, across from Lakemont Pines.

We had a dry winter so remember, as always, to use caution when burning.

Ebbetts Pass Is Now Open!

As of April 26, 2013, Ebbetts Pass is OPEN. It is best to check with Caltrans if you plan to use Ebbetts Pass, as it is subject to closure if weather changes. Ebbetts Pass will usually stay open until the first heavy snowfall of the winter season.
