Ebbetts Pass Now Open

Alpine County, CA….The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has removed the packed winter snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to open State Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass. The diligent work of Caltrans crews enabled the opening of the passes for motorists who utilize these routes. The snow totals for this area was especially high during this season, with multiple late spring storms affecting the region.

Calaveras Hops into Fair Time!

Every May, our community prepares for a highly anticipated annual event: the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee.

This year, Calaveras County will celebrate the 84th Annual County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee from Thursday May 17th through Sunday May 20th at Frogtown. The theme is: “Pride in Our Past, Faith in Our Future.” Throughout the four days the fair will feature all the classic favorites including carnival rides & games, exhibits, a rodeo, queen pageant, concerts, the destruction derby, and of course: the frog jump contest! The first official Frog Jumping Jubilee was held in 1928 in downtown Angels Camp, after Mark Twain wrote his well-known “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”. In 1938 the fairgrounds were acquired and the county fair was joined with the annual Frog Jumping Jubilee to become a celebrated community event.

Bear Valley Announces Closing Date, New Arnold Restaurant Opens For Business

Bear Valley Mountain has announced that the last day of the ski season will be on Sunday, April 15th. The 2011-2012 winter season snowfall was historically low (check out Bear Valley Snowfall History chart for more details), and winter didn’t arrive until February, allowing for only a few months of skiing, snowboarding, and sledding opportunities. Currently, 2012/2013 Bear Valley Season Passes are now on sale – click here for more information or call 209-753-2301.

On the other hand, Simply Delicious (formerly Just Delicious Cafe) has opened for business in Cedar Center. They are open 7 days a week from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. The new owners specialize in homemade favorites using fresh local product. Contact them at 209-795-4578.
