FAQs

About the Area

There are more than 29 million dead or dying trees in Northern California, due to bark beetles. Because of the years-long drought, trees (especially ponderosa and sugar pine) have been unable to defend themselves from the destructive bark beetles. Many agencies are working to remove dead trees so that they don’t pose a risk for fire, falling, etc.

You will find everything you need here in Arnold. While you won’t find many chain stores or name brand businesses (no Starbucks, no drive-thrus!) but there are locally owned businesses including a supermarket, coffee shop, sit-down restaurants and take-out restaurants, sporting goods stores, boutiques, a brewery, and even a taco truck! Visit the ComeToArnold website or the Visit Calaveras website for more information about the local area.

Winter Questions

We make sure that your driveway is plowed on the day of your arrival. Some cabins have snow plow contracts (varies by homeowner) but others will need to be shoveled. A purple star on the top right corner of your check-in packet denotes that there is NOT a snow plow contract for your cabin, and you will need to shovel the driveway. A snow shovel is provided at each cabin. We can also provide you with contact information for private contractors if you would like to pay someone to clear your driveway and/or stairs.

Tire chains are required when chain control is in effect. The location and duration of chain control is subject to weather conditions and is determined by CalTrans. You can view current road conditions and chain requirements at the CalTrans website. It is important to note that having a 4WD vehicle does not replace the need for tire chains. The most common form of chain control requires chains on all vehicles except 4WD vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels. Highway Patrol will fine drivers in violation of chain control requirements.
